My trip to Singapore was more or less a stroke of supreme luck—almost fairytale. An uncle I met on my trip to the Philippines happened to be stationed in U.S. navy housing in Singapore, and offered to fly me out for a weekend to experience life in the city-state. At that point, all I know about Singapore was its synonymity with luxury and shopping, and so I was amazed at how futuristically whimsical Singapore is, and how easily its many disparate cultures seem to blend.
